ANOTHER Server move : 14/05/08 @ 00:27
I'll be moving everything to a new server today so there might be some downtime on the forums. Shouldn't be for too long :)

Server move complete : 24/12/07 @ 17:38
The server move went without a hitch. It was all completed in the early hours of Sunday morning on a belly full of whiskey, so I decided to let it sit for a bit to make sure I hadn't done something stupid, and to give the DNS change time to propogate out :)
Anyway, forums are now up and running again. Hope everyone has a great Christmas!

Server schmerver : 08/12/06 @ 22:32
My hosting company decided to throw a hissy fit and switched my server off after I'd had the cheek to complain about them double-billing me. Joy! So, we're on a new server again, although having learned my lesson from last time, I had a backup of all the files and databases. The last backup ran on Wednesday, however, so we've lost all posts after around 6pm that day.
Moral of the story: 1and1 hosting are SHIT. Their customer service is absolutely fucking appalling and should be avoided at all costs!

New forum : 18/08/06 @ 21:57
Right, I've decided to go ahead and launch the new forum without waiting for the data from the old server, so get yourself re-registered and we'll sort the structure out as we go along.

Meltdown : 18/08/06 @ 21:14
Bah. Looks like we had a meltdown after all. That's two servers in the space of 5 weeks! I did notice that our server room's cooling system is up the creek, though, and Telehouse are aware of the problem; there's a portable aircon unit sitting by the door! Spoke to one of their tech guys and they're going to do some readings to see if it caused our servers to overheat. If it did then they could be liable to replace all the hardware, and that'll be really handy, seeing as the manufacturer's warranty ran out about 5 days before the first server fried. In the meantime, I have two SCSI disks sitting on my desk waiting to be plugged in somewhere so I can access all our data. Anyone living in the London area with a SCSI controller? Drop me an email (paul at reevo dot com).
Saying that, I'm tempted just to go ahead with a new forum for UniMatrix rather than waiting to get the data from the old disks. I'm sure nobody's that bothered about their post-count ;)

Data restoration : 18/08/06 @ 17:05
Okay, I know I said a couple of days, but I've managed to get myself into the hosting centre where the old webserver is housed, so I *should* be able to get at the old database. I say should, because I still have no idea why the old server went offline; I'm hoping I just need to reboot it, but of course we could've had another meltdown. Fingers crossed!

New webserver : 12/08/06 @ 23:05
Apologies for this latest bout of server downtime. The UniMatrix site is now hosted on a new webserver which should (hopefully!) improve reliability and whatnot. Please give us a couple of days to get everything up to speed with the forums as I haven't been able to get a copy of the database from the old server. Unfortunately this means you'll have to re-register, but I'll try to make regular offline backups of the data to stop this happening again in the future.
See you around!
